Doctor my neck hurts. I think I must have slept wrong.

I cannot tell you how many times I hear this from cients. And sometimes, after days, months, years of abuse the neck just gets to the point where it wants some attention and makes you so uncomfortable, produces so much pain that you just cannot stand it anymore and you seek help.

Most of you ignore you necks attempts to tell you to get some help. You come in and say, “I thought the pain would go away. But it didn’t this time.” It’s funny that you pay more attention to your gas gage than you do to your neck gage. While you’re not likely to run out of gas - what a pain in the A__! You often let your neck run out of gas, even to the point where you almost cannot move it.

The fun part is there are many reasons that your neck goes “out”. There’s an old saying - As Above So Below. This means that some problem or trauma to your low back is appearing as a reflex in your neck. Another reason is related to the triune relationship of the neck to the knees and the bowels; each of which are connected to the emotion of fear.

More often than not the pain in your neck is a response to something else that’s going on. Other people can be a pain in the neck. Clenching and/or grinding your teeth at night as you take your worries to sleep with you often times results in a chronic stiff neck. Your neck is one of the most mobile, flexible regions of your spine. It’s supposed to move freely, easily and without pain or those strange crunching sounds.

Don’t wait until you run out of gas. Get your neck in here and get it mobilized. There are many ways to accomplish this. Those in the know realize that getting their neck adjusted actually feels sensational. Others are squimish about the noise this makes thus techniques like Activator, Stair-Stepping and Photomedicine applications are more desireable.

The main thing is your neck is attached to the rest of your body. It’s not some isolated, separate part of your being. So the cause of your neck symptoms needs to be traced to what causes it to happen.

The best way to establish an atmosphere for healing is to create an environment that supports trust and safety.
